Developer seeks up to 50 homes for historic Hartfield Woodstock Farm

A Petersburg developer is seeking rezoning of the 121-acre historic Woodstock Farm near Hartfield on the Piankatank River from agriculture to cluster development.

Woodstock was built in 1858 and has the distinction of having once been owned by Jessie Lincoln Johnson, granddaughter of Abraham Lincoln and daughter of Robert Todd Lincoln, the president’s son. The family owned the land into the 1970s.

The development firm of Waukesha Marvel presented a development “concept” at the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors April 5 meeting to request a change in the zoning of the 121-acre property to cluster development.

The old buildings on the property will be preserved and restored according to DHR standards. The existing barns along the east property line will be restored…
