A trio of strong pitching performances and just enough offense to get the job done resulted in the Deltaville Deltas winning their opening game of National Adult Baseball Association (NABA) Richmond League play on Saturday night. The Deltas defeated the Richmond Brewers by the score of 5-3 at Deltaville Ballpark.
With the win, the Deltas lead off league play with a 1-0 record and move to 2-0 overall on the young season.
- Friday night’s game against Caribe Baseball was cancelled just before the first pitch due to heavy thunderstorms that hit as the teams finished their warmups. A makeup date has not been announced.
- The Deltas played an away game on Tuesday night against the East Coast Cardinals of Fredericksburg, but results were not available at press time.
In Saturday night’s win, the Deltas used a pair of hits to take advantage of three walks issued by Richmond’s starting pitcher in the first inning. A sacrifice fly to center field by Jacob Houston scored Creston Saunders for the first run. After Spencer Crittenden and Travis Crump each stole home on a pair of wild pitches to extend the early lead…
