The residents of Deltaville outdid themselves this year decorating for the Christmas party and the Jackson Creek Christmas Cruise event. Almost every home on the creek was decorated and the cruise was the most colorful in years.

Luna, the replica of a coastal trading sloop from the Colonial Seaport Foundation, was tied to the town dock and covered in lights. Santa waved from her deck and the crew saluted the Christmas cruisers with a burst of canon fire from the deck. Thanks to Jock Collamore and his merry crew.

Back at the Deltaville Community Association (DCA) building, there were 14 entries for the judged cookie contest. The cookies were all spectacular and sumptuous. First place of $100 went to Lillian Fahnestock for her red velvet cookies.

The other winners include:

  • Second place, $50 — Mary Johnson, for her Vermont maple cookies.
  • Third place, $30 — Marion Lancaster, for chocolate walnut oatmeal.
  • Fourth place, $20 — Ray Wade for his chocolate crackle cookies.
  • People’s Choice award, $50 — Mary Crowder for her three-layer bars.

Thank you all for bringing the best cookies ever this year.

Although the event centers on the Jackson Creek Cruise, it is also meant to be a Christmas party for Deltaville. The community is invited to come out for free apple cider, hot chocolate, and homemade treats and to celebrate with friends and neighbors. Making this happen are the DCA volunteers. Many thanks to Gail and Bev Butler, Katie McCue, Maggie McNeill, and Gail Spivey. Special thanks to Pete Woods, the cookie contest judge, and to Stephen Blue for setting up an enormous train village on the stage.

Theresa Linn was in charge of setting up the hundreds of luminaries lining the route from the DCA building to the boat. Helping her this year were the Butlers, Rex and Debbie Wester, Manny, and Saleena Meredith. These lights add a lovely touch to the wagon ride.

At the dock, Heidi Ruse was in charge of arranging for the boat, decorating the marina, and loading all the passengers. Helping on the dock were Chris McCue, Jacob Bowling, Jacki and Keith Ruse, and the Zack Hartbarger family. Neal Hudgins did a masterful job of captaining the boat, Class Act. Lastly, many thanks to our hay wagon drivers, Pete Wright and Keith McCauley.

The DCA board thanks all who came to help and who came out to celebrate the wonderful Deltaville community. Happy holidays to all!
