Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) recent paving of General Puller Highway (Route 33) in Deltaville included new bike path lanes on both sides of the main road in town.
At the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors’ July 7 meeting, VDOT Resident Engineer and Administrator Lee McKnight reported that the Route 33 Deltaville paving project had been planned since 2020. He said it had been delayed until now to allow the Middlesex Water Authority (MWA) to finish installing water lines along Route 33.
“The repaving had been in the plan for sometime,” he said. “It just made good sense to wait and do the paving after the water authority finished laying pipe so we did not have to go back and pay to do the same work again. We have gotten a lot of good public feedback on the new bike lanes.”
