Middlesex school board backs plan;
money would help fund MHS fixes
Middlesex County Circuit Court Judge Joshua P. DeFord signed an “order for referendum” on July 8 that will allow a 1% sales tax referendum to be on the November 2026 ballot.
The order stated “a referendum shall be held in Middlesex County on Nov. 3, 2026 on the question of whether Middlesex County may levy a local sales tax at a rate not to exceed 1% with all revenues to be used solely for capital projects for new public school construction and major public school renovation in Middlesex County.” It is estimated that the tax will generate about $1 million annually.
