Matt Kleinfelter pitched a complete game shutout, and the Deltaville Deltas delivered opportune hitting as they defeated Caribe Baseball by the score of 5-0 in the National Adult Baseball Association (NABA) playoff quarterfinals this past Saturday night.
With the win, the Deltas advance to the league semifinals against the Richmond El Heaters. That game will be played tonight, Thursday, Aug. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at Deltaville Ballpark. A win in that game will send Deltaville to a best-of-three championship series against the winner of the other semifinal matchup, either the Tappahannock Tides or Richmond River Dogs. That series will start on Sunday at 2 p.m. at The Diamond in Richmond. Results, schedule, and locations will be announced on the Deltas website and Facebook pages.
In Saturday night’s win, the Deltas struck first with a second inning solo home run by Jett Bristow. In the third inning, Jacob Houston led off the inning with a single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on another single by Alexander Crittenden to give the Deltas a 2-0 lead.
Travis Crump broke the game open in the fifth with a two-run triple, and scored three pitches later when Crittenden lined a double into the left field corner to make the score 5-0.
That would be all the scoring the Deltas would need. Kleinfelter was dominant on the mound, scattering just four hits and three walks while striking out 12 Caribe hitters.
The Deltas collected a total of eight hits, led by multi-hit games from Crittenden and Benny Walker.
