County eyes slashing half of Bay Transit bus service

During a Feb. 24 budget work session, the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors recommended, in an effort to lower expenditures in the fiscal year 2026-2027 (FY 26-27) budget, to eliminate funds for one Bay Transit bus. (FY 26-27 runs from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027).

Middlesex County currently supports two buses at $95,500 and by eliminating the funding of a bus it would take $47,740 from the proposed FY 26-27 budget.

Saluda District Supervisor Don Harris (chairman) has reminded everyone who has requested funds from the county that Middlesex is currently in the middle of a real estate reassessment that will go into effect in FY 27-28…
