Ladies Bible Study begins at Zoar Baptist Church in Deltaville on Monday, Sept. 14, at 10:30 a.m. The group is interdenominational and will be studying the Book of Hebrews. All women of the community interested in a Christian study are invited.
Its first session will be a time for “meet-and-greet,” coffee and snacks and an introduction to Hebrews. Study books will be available that morning for $9 — exact change is appreciated.
Lesson one will be discussed the following week and each Monday after until Dec. 7. Your group leaders are Suzanne Barden, Sonia Hicks, Amy Holmes and Emily Bailey.
Men’s Bible Study, led by Zoar Pastor John Snow, begins Monday, Sept. 14, at 9 a.m. in Zoar’s conference room. They will discuss Rebecca McLaughlin’s book, “Confronting Jesus: 9 Encounters with the Hero of the Gospels.” Copies of the book will be available that morning for $9.

Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) is hosting a “Memory Café” for caregivers with loved ones experiencing cognitive decline. The first meeting will be conducted on Thursday, Sept. 17, and again on every third Thursday each month from 1 until 3:30 p.m. in the parish hall. This program is free and is sponsored by Bay Aging. Christ Church Parish welcomes everyone to attend services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. each Sunday. There is a coffee hour after each service. A nursery is provided during the 10:30 a.m. service.
On the first and third Sunday, children pre-kindergarten through grade five are welcome to attend a Sunday school class (“Godly Play”) during the 10:30 a.m. service. They then join their parents for worship in the church.

Bay Aging’s new Middlesex Memory Café will meet on the third Thursday of each month from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Christ Church Parish, 56 Christchurch Lane, Christchurch. The first meeting is Thursday, Sept. 17.
People living with memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, along with friends, family members, and caregivers, are welcome to enjoy conversation, refreshments, and community connection in a relaxed setting.

Philippi Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 17276 General Puller Highway, Deltaville, invites you to join them for worship every Sunday at 10 a.m. Children’s church, for ages nursery to 7, immediately follows the children’s sermon.
For September’s worship, Pastor Bill Palmer will focus on Scripture readings from the books of Exodus, Romans, Psalms, Philippians and Matthew.

The Rev. John Upton will speak at the Sunday, Sept. 13, 9 a.m. service at Bethpage Camp-Resort amphitheater. Dress is casual. He will speak later in the morning at the 11 a.m. worship service at Urbanna Baptist Church.
The Rev. Upton is the person who initiated the early morning Sunday worship at Bethpage 45 summers ago. There was no amphitheater, so attendees brought their own lawn chairs to sit by the pond!
Since Rev. Upton and his family lived in Urbanna as the pastor of Urbanna Baptist Church, he has served as a missionary to Taiwan and afterwards returned to Urbanna with his family to serve as Urbanna Baptist Church’s minister for another few years. They then moved to Richmond, where Rev. Upton served the Virginia Baptist Mission Board for many years.

Got Catholic questions? OCIA has answers! OCIA stands for the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults. In short, it is the process through which catechumens, who are unbaptized adults or older children, are formed in the teachings of the Catholicism and are initiated into the Catholic Church.
This process may also include baptized adult Christians or Catholics who are preparing to receive the sacraments of confirmation and Eucharist. Baptized persons moving through OCIA are known as candidates.
Catholic Church of the Visitation in Topping recently announced that its Parish Adult Faith Formation team has started working through the OCIA Inquiry lessons with a motivated candidate. They are planning to meet on the first and third Sundays and the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month for the next several months.
Their schedule for September includes:
- Q4 — Who Is Jesus Christ?, Sunday, Sept. 20, after Mass.
- Q5 — The Bible, Wednesday evening, Sept. 23, 5:30-7 p.m.
Anyone is welcome to join. While the discussions use structured materials, they try to set a casual mood and welcome all questions, even those that may fall outside the scope of the prepared lesson.
