Willie Alfonzo Burrell Jr., 81, departed this life on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, at his home in Philadelphia, Pa.
He was born on Oct. 28, 1944, in Middlesex County. Willie, who was fondly known to many as “June,” was an only child born to the late Willie A. Burrell Sr., and Rosetta E. Burrell.
He attended St. Clare Walker High School in Middlesex. Recently, he enjoyed attending the school reunion, where he saw many of his former classmates and friends. He was a member and attended First Baptist Amburg Church.
He proudly served in the United States Army. While in Vietnam, he was wounded in action and received several commendations. Due to the injury sustained in battle, he was honorably discharged. After his military service, he was employed at the United States Post Office in Philadelphia for almost 20 years.
From a previous marriage, two daughters were born, Davelin and Tracy.
In 1976, he married the love of his life, Jacqueline West. From this union, two sons were born, Brian and Alfred.
Anyone who had a personal relationship with June knew he was passionate about life, family and friends. He was a sharp dresser (always from head to toe!), loved music, and loved having “a good time!” He was kindhearted, enjoyed looking out for others, and a diehard Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies fan — good or bad!
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife of 49 years, Jacqueline “Jackie” Burrell; two daughters, Davelin (David) Forrest of Sandston, Tracy Burrell Hancock of Midlothian; two sons, Brian and Alfred Burrell of Philadelphia, Pa.; four grandchildren, Katrina (Cole) Singleton, Dr. Tiffanee Brown, Brittany Brown, Brianna Burrell, and Brielle Burrell; two great-grandchildren, Riyan Brown, and Camryn Singleton; and other relatives.
The funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Deliverance Evangelistic Church, 2001 W. Lehigh Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19132, Senior Pastor Glen Spaulding. Burial will be at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation, in memory of Mr. Burrell, to First Baptist Amburg Church, P.O. Box 615, Deltaville, VA 23043.
Dupree Funeral Home Inc., Philadelphia, Pa., is handling the arrangements.
