Thomas (Tom) Shoemaker

ShoemakerThomas (Tom) Shoemaker of Deltaville passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026 watching golf.

Tom was a devoted husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin and loving dad. He grew up in Tunkhannock, Pa., and married our mother JoAn. A proud American, he served in the Army 24 years and retired as a lieutenant colonel. He was a Vietnam veteran and graduated from George Mason University with bachelor of science and master’s degrees in business, specializing in quantitative analysis.

He started out as a surveyor and was in the Corp of Engineers and would later manage the construction of commercial buildings and housing communities in northern Virginia, southern Florida and Charlotte, N.C.

An avid sailing captain, Thomas retired to Deltaville with his bride in 2008. A proud Catholic, he served as a lector and usher and built a baptismal font and the Christmas manger for his parish. He was a brother of the Knights of Columbus (KOC), with whom he held many distinguished titles as Grand Knight and faithful navigator of the fourth degree.

He loved his family, neighbors, the Poker Boys, and his Geezer Golf League. He managed KOC documents and golf team stats. He was one of the smartest and proudest men we have known. He took care of our mom only to fight a similar battle himself years later.

Thanks again to Deltaville and Church of Visitation for welcoming and loving our family. We greatly appreciate all of those that helped him along his journey. He was a handsome, charming, fun loving, good friend that we will miss dearly. We hope you enjoy eternal peace.

Your children, Kim and Rob.
