Steam engine

The design dates to the 1930s and requires two operators, one to monitor the pressure so it does not go above 150 pounds per square inch, explained exhibitor Chip Carpenter of Advance Services Solutions located in Louisa.

The two-cylinder engine can push the 20-foot boat about 8 knots. It burns wood and the steam is cooled after driving the pistons, and recycled. The operator is part of the machine turning valves to regulate power, said Carpenter, whose goal is to teach the younger generation about steam engines.
