Roy Wesley Hunley

Roy Wesley Hunley, 72, of Deltaville passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023 with family by his side.

Born in 1951 in Cobbs Creek, Roy was predeceased by his father, Delbert Hunley; mother, Louise Ross; his grandmother, Mamie Elizabeth Hunley (his Biggie); brother, Harold Hunley; father-in-law, George Fary; mother-in-law, Betty Fary; and his two beloved cats, Stirfry and Chow Mein.

He is survived by his children, Emily Driggers (Daniel), Wesley Hunley (Michelle) and Courtney Hunley. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kendrick, Ben, Lakin, Jordan, Kaden, Lizzie and Avery; and great-grandson, Roman. Also to cherish his memory are his beloved brother and best friend, Tom “Mank” Hunley and his wife Nancy; multiple nieces and nephews; and his ex-wife and friend, Kimberly Fary Smith.

Roy worked at the paper mill for 50 years, including the several years he returned after retirement to assist with shut downs and other projects. The mill was his second home and he was able to provide a wonderful life for his family and made hundreds of friends there over the years. Aside from his kids and grandkids, Roy had a love for Duke basketball, the San Francisco 49ers and any women’s sports. He loved them almost as much as his credit score, Costco, Coors Lights and fishing on the pier in the Outer Banks.

The family would like to thank Riverside Regional Hosptial staff for the exceptional care and compassion their dad and family received throughout his surgery and subsequent after care.

Roy requested there be no official service. The family will receive friends and family on Friday, Oct. 13 at The Galley in Deltaville for an informal gathering starting at 2 p.m. A memorial will be planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alex Fitchett Memorial / 241 Baseball League, P.O. Box 516 Saluda, VA 23149, checks payable to Annette Greenwood.
