Lambert headed to state golf tourney

Middlesex freshman Peyton Lambert qualified for the VHSL State Tournament with a sixth place finish in the Class 1 Region A Golf Tournament.

But first Middlesex had to qualify for the regional tournament. On September 26 the Middlesex Charger golf team competed in a regional qualifier match with Mathews to earn a spot in the Regional Golf Tournament held at Hobbs Hole in Tappahannock on September 30.

By rule, the Chargers had to have a combined team score of less that 400, determined by the 4 lowest scores. If the team did not qualify, any individual who shot under 100 would earn the same right to go to the regional tournament. The Chargers tallied for a total team score of 391 to earn the team a spot in the regional tournament.

Peyton Lambert paced the Chargers with an 18-hole score of 78. “This gave others some breathing room and helped calm the nerves a little,” said MHS coach Greg Harrow. “Having 22 strokes in the field helped everyone relax a little.”
