For as long as she can remember, the Rev. Randi Hicks Rowe was entranced by faith, by church, by the Bible. As early as 5, she reckons, she could recite Psalm 23. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, the three men who survived the fiery furnace through God’s help, were second nature to her.
She could name all the books in the Bible by the time she was 10 years old. She eagerly looked forward to Sundays at Fort Lee Baptist Church, where she would one day be wed, near her childhood home in Sandston, just east of Richmond.
Her path to becoming rector at Christ Church Parish, next to the eponymous school, was long and winding. Rowe nurtured a journalism career by getting her degree at Virginia Commonwealth University and embarked on a 17-year path of working at newspapers in Danville and Newport News. She eventually left newspapers and started a communications firm that included work with overseas clients. But something was missing.
