Razing Remlik home OK’d; reportedly didn’t meet code

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors approved $5,000 on Feb. 2 to demolish an unsafe and unoccupied home located at 1884 Old Virginia St. near Hilliard’s Mill Pond in Remlik.

Middlesex County Attorney Heather Lewis informed the board that the county building official has requested that the home be demolished because it is unsafe and does not adhere to Middlesex County building code, and the Uniform Statewide Building Code.

“There are certain procedures that must be followed to do this,” said Lewis. “The building official is asking for authorization to advertise the notice to demolish in the paper for two consecutive weeks.”

The $5,000 appropriation is to pay for the advertisement, demolition of the home and clean up…
