The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors learned this month that the lower end of the county will face voter redistricting due to an increase in Pinetop District’s population and drops in population numbers in the Harmony Village and Hartfield districts.
Supervisors plan to conduct a special called meeting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4 at the Middlesex County Historic Courthouse building in Saluda to address voter redistricting.
The 2020 census showed that Pinetop District was the only district to increase in population with 11 more than in 2010 with 2,262 residents. Hartfield District’s population dropped by 41 and now has 2,186 residents. The district causing the redistricting issue is Harmony Village that dropped 125 residents and has a population of 2,009.
“The ideal is to get all districts (population counts) under 5% (of each other) to comply with redistricting laws,” County Administrator Matt Walker said…
