All Middlesex County school buses have been equipped with exterior cameras to discourage illegal passing of buses when at a stop.

MCPS Superintendent Dr. Tracy Seitz informed the board that cars passing buses when at a stop has been a safety hazard for many years and now the school system will be able to identify and deter violators.
“MCPS continues to prioritize student safety with the recent installation of exterior cameras on its school bus fleet,” said Dr. Seitz. “This proactive measure is designed to deter illegal stop-arm violations and enhance the security of students as they travel to and from school.
“The new exterior cameras are capable of recording and identifying vehicles that illegally pass stopped school buses displaying flashing red lights and extended stop arms,” she said.
