Middlesex girls cross country team wins meet

The Middlesex High School (MHS) girls cross country team won a four-team meet on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Beaverdam Park at Gloucester.

The Lady Chargers defeated Mathews, Lancaster and Essex with a top team score of 24 points. Mathews was in second place with 31 points; Lancaster, third, 85; and Essex, fourth, did not have the five runners required to make up a team.

Middlesex’s Keichan Layne was the top runner in the race with a 21:30 time over the 3.1 mile race. Miko Layne finished third (22:22); Aleena Reza, fourth (23:22); Aubrey Adams, seventh (24:56); Piper Ward, ninth (25:56); Olivia Hoffield, 13th (26:48); Elliot Lease, 15th (27:20); Claire Dise, 17th (28:55); and Sarah Crater, 20th (33:48).

MHS also had two junior varsity eighth grade St. Clare Walker Middle School runners in the meet as Sophia Watson finished 24th (34:37) and Sophia Sandlin, 25th (36:26).

There were no boy cross country results turned in this week to the Sentinel.
