On Friday, Dec. 17, from 7-9 p.m., community volunteers will present a special Christmas event, in the fenced field behind the Urbanna firehouse at 331 Virginia St., to kick off a new Middlesex Community Youth Group for students in grades six-12. The free event will include a contemporary praise band named “One Headlight” with eighth grade students Vincent Wells on drums and Elijah Faine Clark on guitar, freshman Able Crader on bass, and junior Jaden Hogge on drums/percussion, along with pit fire-roasted hot dogs and marshmallows, a special speaker and time to spend with friends to enjoy the Christmas season. The first 100 students who attend will receive a free Christmas wristband.
Terry Rogers, Church Council chairman of Lower United Methodist Church, and spokesperson for the event, said, “The community volunteers are excited about working together to provide the youth in Middlesex County with activities and fun gatherings to develop friendships, mentoring and Christian values.” Rogers said the new youth group plans to meet for gatherings every month.
