Although Middlesex High School did not field an indoor track team this season, the Chargers had four individuals to compete last week in the Region A track championships at Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Kevin Turner won the 300 meter dash and 500 meters. Turner (37.29) just beat Northumberland’s Kentrez Rice, who ran the race in 37.37. He won the 500 meters in 1:10.87.
Gunnar Marston won a nail-biter in the 1,000 meters with a 2:51.31 clocking. Marston just beat West Point’s Thomas Quinn Agnew, who had a 2:51.46 time. Marston also placed third in the 1,600 meter run with a 4:57.31 time.
Charger Darius Jones finished second in the 1,600 meters with a 4:56.31 time. West Point’s Agnew won the race with a 4:49 winning time. Jones also finished fourth in the 1,000 meters (2:53.57).
Lady Charger Karadee Anderson won the girls shot put with a 34’ 7” throw. The next closest competitor was Kaydence Dunn of Rappahannock High School of Warsaw with a 27’ 8.5” toss.
All four MHS competitors qualified for the VHSL Indoor Track Sate Championships on March 4 and 5 at Liberty University in Lynchburg. The doors open for the meet at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4 and at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 5.
