MHS hoop girls experience challenging opener

Special to the Sentinel –

The 2021-2022 Middlesex High School (MHS) Lady Chargers got introduced to varsity basketball on Monday, Nov. 29, in Warsaw against the Rappahannock Raiders. The Lady Chargers have no former full-time varsity players and their youth showed up early and often. The Lady Chargers never received their footing and the Lady Red Raiders dominated from the start to the final horn winning, 61-14.

The game was never in doubt but the young Lady Chargers did show flashes of what they could be in time, said MHS Head Coach Neil Wake. “I and the rest of the coaching staff are very proud of the never give up attitude,” he said. “We will improve and the results of our hard work will show.”

“We will improve and right now it looks like the fight in us is coming from our younger group. We have a good group and once we all get on the same page it should be beautiful to see.”

The Lady Chargers host Chincoteague on Friday, Dec. 3, at 5 p.m.
