Marie Everett Williams, 83, of Saluda departed this life on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.
Marie was born on Nov. 23, 1938 to the late Walter Larry Everett and Mozella Everett in Ahoskie, N.C. She was united in marriage to Thomas A. Williams on Aug. 29, 1957. They were blessed with four daughters, Belinda Beverley of Saluda, Cynthia Williams of Baltimore, Md., Tamie Jackson of Irving, Texas, and Tamica Willard of Richmond.
Marie was always a caregiver. She spent 15 years working for Alan and Yvonne Ameche of Malvern, Pa., while constructing their home back in Saluda with dreams of returning to raise their daughter(s). The time came in 1976 when they returned to Saluda.
Marie worked for the Middlesex County public school system for 34 years as a bus driver. She watched so many of these children grow into adults and create families of their own.
There wasn’t a place she would go and wouldn’t run into someone she knew. She lit up the room wherever she went with her infectious smile. She retired in 2010 due to an illness.
Marie was known for her dependability and cheerfulness. She was patient, honest, friendly and diligent always. She was most proud of her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Williams; three brothers, Walter, Willie, and Ronald Everett; two sisters, Roberta Walton, and Elizabeth Chase; and great-grandson, Kaesun White.
She is survived by five sisters, Josephine Lee (Maurice), Sadie Askew, Doretha Foster, Mildred Holloman (McCoy), Brenda Jennings (Carter); one brother, Kenneth Everett (Barbara); nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; two great uncles; two great aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In memory of Marie, there will be a viewing for family and friends at J.K. Redmond Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 11, from 4-8 p.m. The funeral service will be noon Saturday, Feb. 12, at J.K. Redmond, which is at 3632 Lewis B. Puller Memorial Highway in Shacklefords.
