Kathryn Wray “Kathy” Goyne

GoyneKathryn Wray “Kathy” McDorman Goyne, 76, of Locust Hill, formerly of Chester, died on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026.

She was the daughter of Jane Wray Bristow McDorman and George Alexander McDorman. She was born on April 21,1950, and grew up in Chesterfield County.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard E. “Dick” Goyne; daughter, Sarah G. Walls and her husband, John, of Java; son, Richard E. Goyne Jr. of Williamsburg; and daughter, Lindsay W.G. Kennedy and her husband, Jim, of Richmond, Texas. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Tristan Walls, Charlotte Walls, Evan Goyne, and Kendall Goyne, and step-grandson, Ryan Kennedy. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia M. Runion and husband Gerald, of Chester, and brother, G. Addison McDorman, of Marana, Arizona; and numerous extended family members.

Kathy was an active student at Huguenot High School, graduating in 1968. She received her bachelor’s degree from Westhampton College of the University of Richmond and received her graduate degree in School Psychology from University of Virginia.

After working for a few years, she stayed at home with her children and served at the schools and in the community until she went back to work for Hopewell schools. She retired in 2011 and moved with Dick to their house on the Rappahannock River in Middlesex County. She was involved in the community in multiple ways: at Middlesex County Social Services, as an election poll worker, playing MahJong and pickleball, and in the Middlesex Woman’s Club.

Kathy faced her years-long ordeal with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer with determination and with the practicality for which she was well-known. She was amazed by the tremendous love and support shown to her by so many friends. She was also grateful for the care she received from Bon Secours Cancer Center and RGH Infusion Center. The family would also like to acknowledge their appreciation for the love, friendship, and support from so many of Kathy’s friends from Chester and Middlesex County. They made this difficult journey much easier.

A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30. A celebration of life will be held at Urbanna Baptist Church in Urbanna at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (bcrf.org).
