Investing in schools: Weighing cost of moving forward or standing still

As Middlesex County approaches the Nov. 3 election and referendum on the proposed 1% sales and use tax, I believe it is important for our community to consider both the immediate cost and the long-term investment being proposed.

No one wants to pay more in taxes. That is a legitimate concern, and it should be part of the conversation. But I believe there is another question we should ask: What are we investing in, and what will our community receive in return?

The proposed sales tax revenue would be dedicated solely to school construction and major renovation, with the focus on addressing the significant needs of Middlesex High School.
