New exhibit to open Friday at Urbanna Harbor Gallery

Ignat Konstantinov

Urbanna Harbor Gallery & Art Services is proud to present a return of the KonKons with their new exhibit, “Illustrategy,” a mixed media exhibit. Ignat (Konst) and Konstantina Konstantinov, originally from Bulgaria, were brought to Tappahannock as art teachers at St. Margaret’s School, and for many years taught and painted as a totally collaborative couple.

One could classify their art as imaginative Impressionist imagery which uses layers of texture and materials with beautifully applied paint. Many of their canvases include their signature material, weathered sailcloth and the attached hardware.

This exhibit is dedicated to the memory of Konstantina Konstantinov, and to her passion for the beauty of life. Before her death in the fall of 2018, Konstantina worked on a group of canvases she was not able to complete. For many months, Ignat has been completing these canvases in the same spirit with Konstantina as they have done for years, to complete their final collaboration.
