“Hey, White Girl” event draws big Urbanna crowd

Dozens pack the Middlesex County Woman’s Club (MCWC) building (the colonial courthouse) in Urbanna this month to participate in a presentation on Judith Bice’s “Hey, White Girl” book. (Contributed)

On June 20, an impressive crowd gathered in the Middlesex County Woman’s Club (MCWC) building (the colonial courthouse) in Urbanna to listen to local author Judith Bice. The book clubs of Middlesex County Public Library and the Woman’s Club, as well as numerous community members, engaged in great conversation with the author around her debut novel, “Hey, White Girl.”

Her story portrays a historical fiction account of experiences and relationships of families in Richmond, during the desegregation of public schools in the early 1970s. The crowd engaged enthusiastically with the author and responded with questions to ponder and thoughtful feedback.

Copies of “Hey, White Girl” are in circulation at both Middlesex County Public Library system locations. The sponsoring book groups meet monthly and invite the public to join them.
