The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors approved an additional full-time deputy to manage increasing security demands at the Middlesex Courthouse.
The board took action at its Aug. 4 regular meeting at the request of Sheriff Mickey Sampson, who said staffing courthouse security has caused him to use a patrol deputy for courthouse security. “We’re feeling the strain,” Sheriff Sampson told the board. “We’re spread very, very thin.
Sheriff Sampson explained that there are three court rooms: Circuit Court, with 30 days annually; General District Court that has around 48 scheduled days a year; and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court that is in session for 38 days annually.
