Elva C. Langford, 94, of Water View, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025, at The Lancashire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kilmarnock.
Elva was a member of Hermitage Baptist Church and a charter member of Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
She was known for her beautiful yard and spending time tending to her gorgeous roses and many flower beds. Some of her favorite pasttimes were spending time at Big John’s Store, shopping with her sisters on Tuesdays, and baking her coconut and chocolate cakes. Elva also enjoyed music and especially listening to Conway Twitty and her nephew Harold singing the song, “99 Years” to her.
Elva was affectionately called Nannie by her grandchildren and enjoyed their visits.
Mrs. Langford was preceded in death by her husband, John Raleigh; son, Calvin; grandsons, J.P. and Byran; sisters, Vernelle Hunter, Laura Mae Walton and Peggy Roane.
Elva is survived by her son, Faron R. Langford (Shelley); daughter, Sandy Powell (Lary); grandchildren, Chris Powell (Jenny), Elizabeth Broughton (Noell), James, Ben, and Jason Langford; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister and best friend, Lena Sickal; brother, Tuck Colley (Darlene); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, at Hermitage Baptist Church, 94 Wares Bridge Road, Church View, VA 23032. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in her name to UMVFD, P.O. Box 75, Church View, VA 23032. The family would like to thank the staff at Lancashire Nursing home for their care and devotion.
