Edwina Pruitt Crockett

Edwina Pruitt Crockett, 82, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023.

Edwina was born on Tangier Island on March 7, 1940. She was the second daughter born to Paul and Ruth Pruitt. She grew up in Urbanna.

After high school, she attended Smithdeal Massey Business College in Richmond. After graduating from business school, she married Joseph Humphreys Sr. and spent the next few years living in Moss Point, Miss. and Beaufort, N.C., before settling in Lancaster County.

Edwina was a devout Christian and taught Sunday school for years at White Stone United Methodist Church. She loved music and sang in the choir at White Stone and Irvington United Methodist Church. In addition to her religious pursuits, she was an accomplished writer and pastry chef.  She enjoyed a 20-year career as a dental assistant for Dr. David Newman in Kilmarnock.

Edwina is survived by her loving husband, Jimmie Lee Crockett of Irvington; her sister, Diane Pruitt (William) of Williamsburg; her daughter, Genevieve Humphreys of Anthem, Ariz.; and her son, Joseph Humphreys Jr. (Katherine) of White Stone.  Edwina had four grandchildren, Jacklyn Humphreys Crenshaw (Dustin), Joseph Humphreys III, Shane Uebel, and Caroline Merryman Bonner (Daniel); as well as several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is planned for 11 a.m. March 18 at Irvington United Methodist Church. The family is requesting guests wear their favorite spring colors in honor of Edwina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Irvington United Methodist Church, 26 King Carter Drive, Irvington, VA 22480.
