Returning Misfits claim top-prize

Waters were a little choppy at 7 a.m. Saturday, July 25, as lines were cast for the 18th annual Dream Fields Spanish Mackerel Tournament. But the weather cleared to make for a great day of fishing for a good cause — Lancaster County Little League and Dream Fields sports complex. According to tournament director Amy Forrester, there were 69 registered boats. Again, local anglers topped the leader board with Returning Misfits aboard Midnight Sun taking the top prize.

Boats weighed in their four largest fish for a combined total. “There was a lot of excitement at the weigh station when angler Carlee Broadus weighed in a whopper of a mackerel at 2.6 pounds,” said Forrester. Broadus won the $4,100 Calcutta prize money with that fish and she helped secure the first place position for Returning Misfits, which had a total weight of 7.65 pounds.

Pete and Ryan Conway, aboard Ghost Bite,  placed second with a total weight of 6.86 pounds.
