Rain is the theme of the last weeks of baseball for the Deltaville Deltas. Storms washed out the Deltas game at Tappahannock last week after just two complete innings, and on Sunday afternoon in Richmond only three innings were completed against the Richmond Trash Pandas before heavy rains forced postponement once again.
While the Tap-pahannock game, one of the last of the regular season schedule, was called a no-contest, the game against the Trash Pandas is the opening round of the postseason playoff tournament. It was suspended until this week, and will be picked up in the top of the fourth inning in a scoreless tie. The winner will move on to face the Richmond Brewers this weekend in the second round.
The Deltas did complete their regular season finale on Friday night against the Brewers. A strong showing from the bats of the Richmond team produced three home runs, and they ran away with a 16-5 victory at Deltaville Ballpark. Trevor Richardson led the Deltas offense with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, and Travis Crump drove in two runs, reaching base three times in four plate appearances (via a hit, walk, and a hit by pitch).
