The Middlesex High School Charger football team dropped its first game of the 2025-2026 season with a 41-0 defeat to the Northumberland Indians on Friday night at Heathsville.
The Chargers were paced on both offense and defense by junior Davonte Griffin, who had a total of 90 offensive yards. Griffin had 26 yards rushing, 20 from the air and 44 yards on a kickoff return. Griffin was high tackler for MHS on defense with seven tackles — five solos and two assists.
Quarterback Cash Steel completed three passes out of 10 attempts. Steel connected on two of his passes to Griffin and he completed a 38-yard pass to Jakub Bowen. Bowen also contributed 17 yards rushing.
Running back Dereon Cooke had 56 offensive yards with 29 rushing yards and 27 on a kickoff return. JaMar Hammond contributed a 59-yard kickoff return.
