Middlesex County postal customers are waiting for their mail as post offices in the county have had no mail delivered in the last four days, says a postal worker Monday who does not want to be identified.
Several post offices in the county were called and no one wanted to speak on the record. However, one county postmaster said that this is a nationwide problem but specifically to the Middle Peninsula it relates to a mail “distribution hub” in Sandston where mail is “bottlenecked” because of a decreased workforce due to COVID-19. “That’s what they (main postal officials) say,” said the postmaster.
After inquiries into Gloucester and Mathews counties, a source confirms that both counties are having similar problems although some mail seems to be getting through. It was reported that postal officials in Gloucester are driving to the Sandston transfer center to pick up…
