Congregants at Lower United Methodist Church (LUMC), 120 Lower Church Road, Hartfield invite everyone to join them this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for their traditional worship service in their historic sanctuary.
Adult Sunday school is offered at 9:30 a.m. in the LUMC Fellowship Hall, preceded by Coffee Fellowship beginning at 9:15 a.m. The LUMC Women’s Choral Ensemble, Wellspring, meets Monday at 6 p.m.; and at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the LUMC Handbell Choir, Embellish, will practice. Additionally at LUMC, the Rev. Dr. Mary B. Ligon, or “Chaplain Mary,” is set to speak. She is the inaugural community chaplain for Bay Aging, an Urbanna-based agency on aging serving Virginia’s Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck. Her community-based chaplaincy program primarily serves residents, along with caregivers and professionals throughout the region.
She previously served as a palliative care chaplain at WellSpan York Hospital and as a tenured professor of gerontology at York College of Pennsylvania. She has a doctoral degree in health-related sciences and a master’s degree in gerontology from Virginia Commonwealth University, and her work focuses on aging, spirituality, and whole-person care across the lifespan.

Mount Zion Baptist Church and Antioch Baptist Church will celebrate their pastor of 56 blessed years, the Rev. Dr. Fred D. Holmes Jr. The celebration will take place on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Van Den Boogard Center located at 3510 King William Ave. in West Point.
The tickets for the banquet are $25 for adults and $12.50 for children 12 and younger. The deadline to purchase tickets is Oct. 15.

Hermitage Baptist Church will host a special concert featuring award-winning, Tennessee-based trio Sacred Harmony, a nationally touring professional gospel group, on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m.
The concert will be conducted at Hermitage Baptist Church, located at 94 Wares Bridge Road, Church View. The community is invited to attend this special evening of gospel music, worship and fellowship.
Sacred Harmony travels nationally sharing its gospel music ministry with audiences throughout the country. Their appearance at Hermitage Baptist Church will provide local residents with an opportunity to experience the group’s musical ministry close to home.
Admission is open to everyone, and all are encouraged to invite family, friends and neighbors to attend.
A love offering will be received during the concert to help support Sacred Harmony and its ongoing ministry and national touring efforts.

Bay Aging’s new Middlesex Memory Café will meet on the third Thursday of each month from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Christ Church Parish, 56 Christchurch Lane, Christchurch.
People living with memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, along with friends, family members, and caregivers, are welcome to enjoy conversation, refreshments, and community connection in a relaxed setting.
