Charles Lewis Cooke peacefully answered the Lord’s call and entered into eternal rest on Monday, Nov. 14, 2022.
Charles was born on Oct. 5, 1941 in Middlesex County to the late Dall Edward Cooke Sr. and Bessie Lee Harris Cooke.
Charles’ Christian walk was instilled at an early age at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hartfield, under the guidance of his loving parents.
He attended Virginia State School in Hampton for children who were unable to speak, hear or were blind. There he gained a rich experience in learning sign language, writing, math, arts and many other valuable skills.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dall Edward Cooke Sr. and Bessie Lee Harris Cooke; sister, Dora Alice Cooke DeJarnett; brother, Dall Edward Cooke Jr.; sister, Lucile Roberta Cooke Carmichael and brother-in-law, Thomas “TJ” Carmichael.
Charles leaves to cherish his blessed memory, two brothers, Allen Leroy Cooke and Herman N. Cooke; sister, Hazel Louise Cooke Carter (Vincent Sr.); sister-in-law, Esther Mae Cooke; brother-in-law, Warren DeJarnett; three nieces, Shelia Carmichael, Stephanie Carter and Nicole Reid; three nephews, Thomas Jeffrey Carmichael (Cecilia), Vincent J. Carter Jr. (Giovanni “Penny”) and Michael O. Cooke (Patricia); two great-nieces Kiana Carmichael and Brianna Carter; one great-nephew, Edward Francis Cooke; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
The funeral service was 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at New Hope Fellowship Church, Hartfield. Interment was in Mount Olive Cemetery, Hartfield.
