Charles Elam (“Big E”) Tompkins of Sophia, W.Va., formerly of Deltaville, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at the age of 68.
He was the son of the late Betty Featherston Simmons of Richmond, and Herbert W. Tompkins Jr. of Deltaville.
He is survived by his sons, Charles Tompkins of Vacaville, Calif., Justin Tompkins of Goldsboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Hannah and Noah of El Paso, Texas, Lydia of Goldsboro, N.C., Auston and Jeremiah of Vacaville, Calif.
Elam, as he was called by his family, is also survived by his loving stepmother, Anne Tompkins of Gloucester; sisters, Mary Cantrell of Midland, Diane Faulkner of Hardyville, Donna Buzzella of Lake City, Fla.; and brother, Herbert W. “Tom” Tompkins III of Fair Oaks, Calif.
A celebration of life was graciously conducted at the home of cousin Denise and Robert Dietz of Urbanna, on Oct. 26.
Elam was an accomplished handyman and electrician. He also enjoyed volunteering for the rescue squad in Deltaville when he was a resident of Middlesex County.
