
On Saturday, January 4, Middlesex will host Warhill High School in a varsity girls basketball game at 1:30 p.m., will host Hampton Roads Academy (HRA) in a JV boys basketball game at 3 p.m., and will host Hampton Roads Academy (HRA) in a varsity boys basketball game at 4:30 p.m. All games will be in the John S. Clements Memorial Gym at MHS in Saluda.

Carver 66, Middlesex 55
Carver took a 39-24 halftime lead and went to down the Middlesex boys varsity 66-55 on December 13 at MHS in Saluda.
Jaden Reed paced MHS with 19 points, Camren Hammond had 12, Jomari Gonzalez 9, Cassidy Ward 6, Mitch Curtiss 4, Brandon Ward 3 and Mike Hammond 2.
Middlesex 69, K&Q 56
On December 17 at MHS in Saluda, the Middlesex boys varsity defeated King and Queen 69-56. The Chargers led 38-22 at the half.
Jaden Reed paced the Chargers with 17 points, Camren Hammond had 10 points and 4 assists, Mike Hammond added 9 points, Jomari Gonzalez 8, Mitch Curtiss 6, Alex Bullock 5, and Legend Watson 4. Cassidy Ward had a team-high 9 rebounds.
“We showed better composure against the King and Queen press and played good team ball,” said MHS coach Jon Hatch.
Lancaster 70, Middlesex 27
Lancaster jumped to a 24-3 first quarter lead and never looked back.Â
Mike Hammond led MHS with 5 points, Camren Hammond, Jaden Reed and Cassidy Ward scored 4 points each, Alex Bullock and Jomari Gonzalez had 3 apiece, and Mitch Curtiss and Legend Watson 2 each.  Â
Mathews 86, Middlesex 73
Tied 36-36 at the half, Mathews outscored Middlesex 23-14 in the third quarter en route to a 86-73 Tidewater District win at Mathews on December 20.Â
“We played hard but our poor ball handling allowed them to spurt at the end of the third quarter,” said Coach Hatch. “There’s a lot of positives to take away, but they know there’s a lot of work yet to be done.”
Camren Hammond paced the Chargers with 22 points, Cassidy Ward had 12 points and 9 rebounds, Jaden Reed scored 12 points, Mitch Curtiss and Mike Hammond had 7 points apiece, Alex Bullock and Brandon Ward scored 5 each, Neaven Johannsen contributed 2, and Legend Watson had 1.
Tabb 89, Middlesex 48
In the first round of the Tabb Tournament on December 27, Tabb outscored the Chargers 31-11 in the first quarter and rolled to a 89-48 win.
Camren Hammond had 16 points to pace MHS, Mike Hammond had 13, Alex Bullock 9, Cassidy Ward 6, Montrell Oakley 3, and Phillip Hart 1.Â
Gloucester 68, Middlesex 53
In the second round of the Tabb Tournament on December 28, Gloucester withstood a second half Middlesex rally and posted a 68-53 win.
Middlesex cut the Gloucester lead to 7 points midway through the fourth quarter but could not gain any more ground.
“A lot of young guys gave a good account of themselves,” said Coach Hatch. “They didn’t back down, showed a lot of heart, and put themselves in a position to win. That’s all I can ask.”Â
Mike Hammond scored 16 to lead MHS, Cassidy Ward had 15, Camren Hammond 10, Alex Bullock 6, and Phillip Hart, Montreal Oakley and Legend Watson 2 apiece.
Camren Hammond was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Middlesex will visit West Point on Tuesday, January 7, in a Tidewater District game. The JVs play at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity follows at 7 p.m.
