Blessing of the Fleet is coming up

The annual Blessing of the Fleet ceremony is set for Sunday, May 5, at the old Morris-Fisher factory in Reedville.

The annual Blessing of the Fleet ceremony is set for 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the old Morris-Fisher factory on the Omega Protein property at 610 Menhaden Road in Reedville.

The keynote speaker will be James C. Hudgins, president of the Virginia Waterman’s Association. Local clergy will include Priest Joie Pierce, Kaki Swan of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, the Rev. Linwood T. Blizzard II of Macedonia Baptist Church, and the Rev. Pilar Parnell of St. Stephen’s Church. A local choir will participate. Please bring chairs. Boats that wish to participate in the boat parade will meet at the mouth of Cockrell Creek and the Great Wicomico at 3 p.m. All are welcome, rain or shine.
