Ann Marie Miller Waters, 80, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at her Gloucester home surrounded by her loving family.
Born Feb. 9, 1945, in Middlesex County, to Archie Lee Miller and Agnes Brown Miller, she married Rudy Waters on June 19, 1965. In 1969, the couple settled in Gloucester County and raised two wonderful sons.
She was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church, near Topping, her childhood church. Ann was a pillar of service in her Gloucester County community, devoting more than 50 years as a Sunday school teacher and church pianist nurturing spiritual growth with unwavering commitment. Beyond her church, she enriched lives as a Red Cross swim instructor, teaching essential swimming skills, and as an election officer, upholding civic duty with integrity.
Ann shared her passion for music, teaching piano lessons for more than two decades. A master gardener, she transformed the family homestead with breathtaking gardens, showcasing her passion for cultivating beauty and growth. Her vibrant landscapes remain a cherished legacy for her family. For 42 years, Ann and Rudy hosted the annual Brown-Miller July 4th reunion, welcoming extended family to the Waters homestead.
She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, A.L. Miller Jr.; and her sister, Shirley Miller Apsley.
She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Rudolph “Rudy” Waters; her son, William “Billy” V. Waters, his wife, Cathe, and their son, Andrew of Virginia Beach; her son, Robert “Bobby” A. Waters, and his wife, Nicole and their daughters, Lorelei and Eliana of Williamsburg; her sister, Catherine Ferree of Syringa; and a number of wonderful nieces and nephews.
A funeral service is planned for noon Saturday, May 17, at Harmony Grove Baptist Church with burial in the Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers may be sent to Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Saluda.
