Fire truck will carry Santa on MC visit

Santa ho-ho-hos his way through Urbanna high atop a fire truck during the 2016 Christmas parade. While COVID-19 has canceled Yule parades this year, the jolly gent from the North Pole has still scheduled special socially distanced Middlesex County visits Dec. 20-22. Since he’s leaving his sleigh and reindeer parked and instead riding high atop a moving fire truck, he will be within the governor’s coronavirus guidelines and hopes masked children will come out and wave to him. The Middlesex County Volunteer Fire Department (MCVFD) is sponsoring three evening “Santa’s Neighborhood Visit” events via fire truck in Urbanna, Remlik, Kilmer’s Point, Burrell’s Marina Road and Saluda.

“Although COVID-19 has canceled many Christmas events, we feel it is safe for Santa to visit our local neighborhoods from atop our fire truck,” said MCVFD Chief Ray Burch. “We have done this before and the community seemed to like it.”

“We hope that as Santa rides by, parents and children will come out in their yards and on their porches and wave to Santa,” said Burch. Santa will cancel his fire truck visits if it is raining during his scheduled visit times, said Burch.

Santa’s fire truck visits will run 6:30 to 8 p.m. each evening…
