Waterfront access lingers as MC issue

As issues continue to arise over waterfront access sites at government maintained public landings in Middlesex County, it is obvious the struggle of Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) to provide friendly, diverse, adequate waterfront access to the public is an ongoing challenge.

Public waterfront access at Canoe House Landing in Jamaica District, Mill Creek Landing in Wake and Whiting Creek Landing at Locust Hill have all been in the news of late concerning public use issues.

The latest use issue pertains to Fairfield Landing on Fairfield Landing Road (Route 708) in Hartfield on the Piankatank River. The road leading to the small public landing has eroded along the shoreline forcing Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) officials to close the road.
