DCA’s Deltaville Ballpark receives  $50,000 RCCF grant for renovations

Historic Deltaville Ballpark

The Deltaville Community Association (DCA) Inc. received a River Counties Community Foundation grant for ongoing restoration of the historic Deltaville Ballpark in the amount of $50,000 on July 24 at the 2019 RCCF grant reception held in Weems.

The River Counties Community Foundation grant supports an improved access ramp that will allow all attendees, regardless of age or physical abilities, to enter safely for games and other events at the iconic ballpark.

DCA Board President Carolyn Schmalenberger said, “This grant is a tremendous boost in completing Phase II of the Deltaville Ballpark restoration’s three-phase project. The DCA is very excited and very grateful to RCCF for the support.”

DCA Board member Randy Blue said, “The historic Deltaville Ballpark grandstand is a rare example of post-WWII ballpark architecture. All of the renovations have been carefully planned to not take away from the look and feel of the original ballpark.”

The iconic circa 1948 Deltaville Ballpark, home of the Deltas, a semi-pro baseball team, is the oldest remaining all-wooden ballpark in Virginia, and one of the few in use left in the country. In addition to semi-pro, the Deltaville Ballpark has served as home to amateur, scholastic, and youth baseball for over 70 years. The park seats approximately 300 fans. In addition to baseball, the facility is used for various other events throughout the year, and hosts charity games, weddings, concerts, and other entertaining events for the whole family.

The Deltaville Ballpark attracts residents and guests of all ages and abilities for baseball and entertaining events. Additionally, the landmark benefits local businesses in the village who provide goods and services for locals and visitors.

The ballpark, located on Ballpark Road in the waterfront village of Deltaville (population approximately 1,000), is owned by the non-profit community group, the Deltaville Community Association Inc.
