Walter Banfield, son of Nancy and Douglas Banfield of Wake, completed the 128th annual Boston Marathon on April 15, finishing in two hours, 51 minutes, and placing in the 1,380th position among the 25,538 runners. This put him in the top 5% of finishers.
Walter is finishing his first year of residency as an emergency room doctor at the R. Adams Crowley Shock Trauma Unit at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore. Walter grew up in Middlesex County and attended Christchurch School.
This year’s winner of the classic, 26-mile race from Hopkinton to downtown Boston was Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia, who finished with a 2:06:17 time.
