Volleyball club tryouts set for this weekend at MHS

A new volleyball club is forming for the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck called the Rappahannock River Volleyball Club (RRVC).

The travel club will have tryouts this Saturday and Sunday, July 19 and 20, at Middlesex High School in Saluda, said MHS Varsity Volleyball Coach Brian Walton, one of the RRVC organizers.

Girls from 12 through 18 years of age are encouraged to try out.

Tryout times are broken into age groups as follows:

12-13 year olds, 8 to 10 a.m.
4 year olds, 10 a.m. to noon
5 year olds, noon to 2 p.m.
16 year olds, 2 to 4 p.m.
17-18 year olds, 4 to 6 p.m.

The teams will use local facilities in Middlesex, Lancaster, Mathews and Gloucester counties for practice. Depending on the number of interested players, there will be at least one team for each age group, and possibly two teams per age group, Walton said.

The cost is $25 per player.

The season begins in January 2026 with games in Richmond, Washington, D.C., Louisville, Ky., and Florida.
