USS Sequoia is leaving Deltaville

The presidential yacht “USS Sequoia” (above) is about to leave Chesapeake Boat Works in Deltaville bound for Belfast, Maine. French & Webb Inc., a custom boatbuilder in Belfast, will restore the yacht. It will be loaded onto a barge and towed to the yard. The Sequoia has been at the Deltaville boatyard for several years embroiled in a lawsuit. It was built in 1925 and served eight presidents before Jimmy Carter put it up for auction in 1977. The vessel was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987 and was used for private charters in Washington, D.C., until 2014. (Photo by Larry Chowning)
