Urbanna Baptist’s pastor to lead Memorial Day ceremony

A community Memorial Day service is set for 11 a.m. Monday, May 31, at the Urbanna Town Marina.

This will be a time to focus on the somber reason for Memorial Day, organizers say, and to honor and remember all the brave men and women who have given their lives in service to their country.

Hosted by the Town of Urbanna, the service will be led by the Rev. Bruce Powers, the pastor of Urbanna Baptist Church. There will be music by the band Jubal, a presentation of colors, and a wreath-laying ceremony.

Urbanna Town Administrator Garth Wheeler is expected to present a speech on the meaning of Memorial Day and Urbanna Mayor Barbara Hartley is expected to present a proclamation from the town.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.

There is no rain date.
