Renowned bay filmmakers visit Urbanna for information on ospreys and geese

Chesapeake Bay writer Tom Horton and renowned bay photographer David Harp came to Urbanna last week working on a film for Bay Journal on ospreys and geese.

Horton is a longtime Maryland writer on the bay. He started his journalistic life as a reporter for the Baltimore Sun covering environmental issues from 1972 to 2006. He has written several books and is most noted for his New York published “Island Out of Time” — a book centered around life on Smith Island, Maryland.

On April 25, 2025, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) honored the team with its Bay Heritage Award for their contributions to the preservation of regional culture in line with CBMM’s mission.
