Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has come under increased scrutiny, not because NATO troops engage in the conflict, but because of its role in relations between Russia and its neighbors. The issue is whether expanding NATO membership protects countries, or will it further provoke Russia?
Bill Puttmann’s upcoming Deltaville Great Decisions presentation on NATO will highlight the transformation of NATO from its establishment in 1949 until the present. It will provide an overview of the mission, organizational structure, and the operational functions within the Alliance.
Puttmann’s Great Decision session is set for 10 a.m.-noon Friday, March 1, at the Deltaville Community Association building at 17147 General Puller Highway in Deltaville. The session format includes a 40- to 50-minute presentation, coffee/cookie break, followed by a question-and-answer period. Great Decisions sessions are always free to attend, but organizers appreciate donations to buy cookies for the session breaks.
The March 8 Great Decisions topic is “High Seas Treaty” and will be presented by retired U.S. Navy officer Steve Gahan.
