The Linda Carol, owned by Captain Shannon Green of Deltaville, was part of a kick-off celebration on July 18, 2018 for eventually planting 500 tons of stone on the Piankatank River to establish a 438-acre oyster reef. The first 100 tons were off-loaded on that hot July day from W. E. Kellum Seafood’s boat Capt. Ellery into the river. As part of the celebration, 12 bushels of oysters that can be seen on the stern of the Linda Carol were dumped overboard as a symbolic start to the program to plant spat-on-shell across the entire reef.
