Only one Middlesex office is contested

Only one Middlesex County seat will be contested in the upcoming election.

The deadline to submit the necessary paperwork to be a candidate was June 17.

Last week Kevin E. Gentry completed all paperwork and qualified as a candidate for the Hartfield District School Board seat, reported Melissa D. Welch, Middlesex County’s director of elections and general registrar. Gentry and Karen C. McMinn are on the ballot contesting the Hartfield District school board seat currently held by Jennifer McMurtrie, who is not seeking re-election.

Also on the ballot is incumbent Dana D. Burnett, who is running unopposed for another term as the Saluda District school board representative.

In the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors election, incumbent William A. “Bill” Harris is running unopposed in the Hartfield District; and incumbent Don R. Harris is running for the Saluda District. The Harrises are not related.

Two of five Middlesex voting districts are on the local ballot in the Nov. 4 election, and include the Saluda and Hartfield district seats for the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors and the Middlesex County Public School Board.
